Monthly vs. Annual 24-Hour Fitness Membership Costs: Which Saves You More?

When it comes to paying for a gym membership at 24 Hour Fitness, you have three options and they each have different costs and levels of flexibility.

Month-to-month plans: flexibility vs. higher cost

Month-to-month plans are the most flexible. You’re not locked into a long-term agreement, and you can cancel anytime. However, this is also the most expensive option per month.

  • No long-term commitment
  • Most expensive monthly rate
  • First and last months often due at signup
  • Best for: People who are not sure how long they will use the gym

12-month commitment plans: lower monthly rate

If you commit to 12 months, your monthly rate will be less than the month-to-month price. In addition, some clubs will either waive the first month or have a discounted initiation fee if you sign a 12-month agreement.

  • Lower monthly rate than month-to-month
  • Sometimes first month waived
  • You might have to pay a fee if you cancel early
  • Best for: People who are looking to use the gym regularly for at least a year

Prepaid annual membership: biggest savings and how it works

The prepaid annual plan is where you pay for 12 months in one go, this will be the lowest total cost with no price increases over your membership plus sometimes 24-Hour Fitness will offer extra months (e.g. 3 extra month free) use this link to see if that promotion is currently live.

Hidden Fees to Know Before Joining: Enrollment, Annual and Other Charges

The monthly rate is just a portion of what you’re paying. There are a couple other added charges that some newbies tend to miss out on. So knowing those before getting started with it, helps you build your real budget.

The enrollment fee is a one-time charge that you will pay when you join as a new member. It is not part of your monthly dues, but rather a start-up cost to help cover some of the administrative and account set up we incur for each new member.

  • Amount: Varies by location and promotion
  • Silver membership initiation fee: $79.99
  • Other tiers: Varies, often waived during special promotions
  • Refundable: No, once paid it is non-refundable

Tip: If you become a new member when we are running a promotion you can get this fee to be less or nothing at all.

The annual facility fee: This is why it exists and when it is billed.

Every 24 Hour Fitness member is required to pay an annual facility fee. We charge this fee once per year on top of your monthly dues and it helps fund our equipment maintenance, club upgrades and future digital offerings like our 24GO app.

  • Amount: Approximately $59.99 to $69.99 per year
  • When it is billed: Approximately 15 days post enrolment, then every 12 months thereafter
  • Does it apply if I do not go to the gym? Yes the fee is based on your contract not your attendance.
  • Is it part of your prepaid annual plan? Sometimes, but not always. Refer to your plan details
  • Note: No annual fee charged in Hawaii and Nevada
